History
Château Beauvallon has a rich history associated with prominent families that left their mark on the history of France.
In the 15th century, Imbert de Batarnay Bouchage, the owner of the castle, was one of the closest advisers to Kings Louis XI and Charles VIII.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the ownership of the castle passed to Bourbon-Montpensier, one of the wealthiest families in France at that time. Marie de Bourbon-Montpensier, Countess of Bouchage, married Gaston d'Orléans, the only brother of Louis XIII. This marriage explains the presence of the fleur-de-lys, the emblem of the Bourbon family, in the two upper corners of the shield on the façade of the main building and above the portal of Château Dubouchage, later renamed Château de Beauvallon.
Château de Beauvallon was last occupied in the early 20th century by Mr. Daniel Olliver, son of the Prime Minister of Napoleon III and Blandine Liszt. Blandine Liszt was the daughter of the pianist and composer Franz Liszt and the niece of Richard Wagner, both of whom stayed at the castle on several occasions.
